Homework
Parents can do many things to help their children with their homework and to develop good study habits that their children can rely on through out life.
- Get an early start: Read to your children at a young age to encourage an interest in books and develop a joy for reading.
- Take an interest in your child's education. Parents should get to know their child's teachers, join parent groups, and talk to their child about what he is doing in school.
- Schedule homework time at the same time each day to encourage children to study daily.
- Provide your child with a study area in which they will not be disturbed.
- Assist your child in organizing assignments and supplies to promote study time.
- Encourage your child's study habits but don't expect perfection.
- Provide your child with help if needed, but do not do homework for your child.
- Give your child the responsibility for homework including the consequences for incomplete homework.
- Don't be afraid to change the homework schedule if it is not working. Together you and your child can devise a schedule that will work for you.
