Social Services

The social worker at Innovis Health Cancer Center is a professional member of the Innovis Health Oncology Staff. Our social worker assists patients and their families with the social, financial, psychological and family problems associated with a diagnosis of cancer and outpatient treatment.

The social worker and our multidisciplinary team provide and facilitate services for cancer patients and visits privately with them and their family to discuss various needs. All information shared with the social worker is confidential. With patient approval, the social worker may contact other community agencies to assist when needed.

Cheryl Backsen

Cheryl Backsen, an oncology social worker, is a licensed in North Dakota and Minnesota and has worked as a social worker for more than 27 years in hospital, clinic and home healthcare settings. Backsen graduated from Minnesota State University in Moorhead with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Backsen is available to assist patients and family members in coping with the emotional and practical concerns that accompany the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. These concerns include financial issues, insurance, transportation, lodging, resources for home care and community living options and emotional support. Backsen is aware of support programs available to cancer patients and family members and advocates for them.
